also like… men really just don’t understand women’s level of low self-esteem towards our bodies. this isn’t even just about dieting culture and makeup culture and social media culture and all these different areas of life telling women that our natural selves is disgusting and we need to apologize for not looking like photoshopped models 24/7, it’s also just literally being treated as inferior due to your body and the anatomy you were born with. it’s men who have never fucking experienced a menstrual cycle a day in their fucking lives telling you what periods are because the female body is up for so much fucking debate that men think their worthless 2 cents on an issue they have never experienced and never will experience is necessary. it’s jobs passing you up for promotions simply because they assume you’ll get pregnant and need maternity leave and be a liability to the company. it’s men literally stalking and harassing you and invading your personal space in a way they wouldn’t even dare do with other men. it’s the president of the united states saying “grab them by the pussy” and having his supporters who brush it off because of course women’s bodies exist to be sexually assaulted. why the fuck are you feminist bitches complaining? it’s commercials and music videos and tv shows and movies and apps and EVERYTHING selling the highly sexualized female body because obviously you can’t sell a fucking car, or a beach vacation, or whatever shitty movie that’s gonna tank at the box office, without half-naked oiled up women. it’s men not seeing the problem with the PLETHORA of rape scenes on game of thrones because “historical accuracy” but they don’t bring up how the women on the show being completely hairless all over their bodies and having perfectly plucked eyebrows isn’t “historically inaccurate.” it’s women being expected to be invisible after they reach 35, but older men get to be “silver foxes.” it’s men defending their lust of barely legal teenage girls with “it’s evolutionary for men to want younger women.”

men seeing a buffed up dude and feeling bad about themselves because they aren’t that muscular is NOTHING compared to the day in and day out images women receive saying that our bodies don’t belong to us and our bodies must be good enough for men to find attractive and our bodies are products and our bodies are fashion trends that can be “in” one decade and “out” the other. a male power fantasy body is NOTHING compared to the daily bullshit women receive just by existing.

Men don’t understand because when they fulfill that fantasy they get to feel good about themselves. They’re buff and handsome!

If a woman loses weight or starts performing femininity better she just becomes more visible, more vulnerable, but nothing else. A woman who meets cultural expectations for what a woman “should” be becomes a target for being too shallow or too obsessed with appearances or even too attractive (because “who can blame him I mean have you seen that ass”). There’s no actual incentive for women to fill these expectations that are forced on us, and the knowledge that it’s a losing battle every way you slice it is depressing. Navigating the public sphere as a woman in any shape or size is fucking demeaning.
